At the Department of Safety and Quality of Meat in Kulmbach the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE) founded joint project aims at the investigation of the consequences of different stunning gas combinations on carcass quality, meat quality, metabolome and the stunning effectiveness in pigs. Within the scope of this work, the influence of the respective gas mixtures on metabolism of the animals will be analysed using non-targeted and targeted metabolite profiling techniques such as GC x GC-MS and LC-MS/MS. The stunnig experiments and sampling of blood and muscle tissue will be carried out with an interdisciplinary team of veterinarians, biologists, butchers and technical staff at the slaughterhouse. A completed master's degree or a comparable degree in biology, biochemistry, agricultural sciences or a comparable degree in the field of life sciences Basic knowledge about mammalian physiology Hands-on experience with application of analytical methods Expericene in the evaluation of analytical data with statistical methods Good English skills, both written and spoken Preferable are: Experience in working with biochemical methods (e.g. chromatography or mass spectrometry) Experience in writing project reports and scientific publications Experience in the safe handling of chemicals and responsible behavior in laboratories. Aside from independent and responsible working methods, as well as the ability for inter and intra disciplinary collaboration, a high degree of motivation, personal commitment, team spirit and a willingness to cooperate with colleagues and other institutions are also required.
