Currently, we are looking for a highly motivated PhD Student to join our research group as soon as possible for working on the interplay between tumor microenvironment and drug therapy in 3D tissue culture models for cancer research and drug testing. This PhD project is within the frame of the 3R-US network, which is based on the principles of «Replacement, Reduction, Refinement (3R)» in the context of animal experiments. With interdisciplinary partners in cell biology, biomedical engineering and oncology at the University of Stuttgart and the Robert-Bosch-Hospital, the aim of the 3R-US network is to build a platform for cancer research, which provides technologies and analysis methods that are based on primary human tumor tissue and are intended to gradually replace animal experiments. The PhD project will address various aspects of cancer therapy and tumor cell biology, including tumor microenvironment and heterogeneity.
Master degree (M.Sc.) in biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine, pharmaceutical sciences or a related discipline. Experience and solid background in molecular biology and or cell culture technology. Preliminary experience with 3D cell culture or tumor models would be beneficial. Interest in oncology and personalized medicine, genuine interest in scientific questions and high motivation for interdisciplinary work. Self-starting personality, commitment, adaptability, team player, and positive attitude. Willing to work with human tumor tissues and mouse tissues. Excellent English written and oral communication skills.
